About me

I’m an award-winning disabled actor, singer and writer of South Asian heritage, with a body of work spanning 20 years.

I recently completed a season at the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), playing Madame LaVaughn, a principal role in The Magician‘s Elephant (2021-22).

In 2017 I experienced a life-changing accident - I was hit by a bus, which led to a near-death experience (NDE). Overnight, my mobility changed, and I am now a disabled artist.

In 2020 BBC Radio commissioned me to write and compose three pieces – a Pandemic Trilogy - (one specifically for World Trauma Day) about my accident and NDE. These had an overwhelming audience response which jammed their switchboard with callers.

Current work

I am delighted to be working with Erica Whyman (Director ‘Ben & IMO, RSC), Marc Teitler (Composer - The Magician’s Elephant, RSC), and Sita Brahmachari (Author and recipient of the Waterstones Book Prize), to create The Burgundy Book: concept album inspired by my accident and NDE, due for release in Summer 2024. The project is funded by Arts Council England and Help Musicians, and supported by The Kiln, The Riverside Studios, The Space, Disability Arts Online (DAO) , Graeae, and South Asian Heritage Month.
